From
the Beginning:
Capitol
Electronics Sales, Inc. (CEI) was originally founded in February 1987
by Wayne Hooper CPMR to provide experienced, professional
sales and customer service representation to the wireless communications
industry in the states of Indiana and Kentucky. Today CEI has grown
in both staff and territorial responsibility to cover the states of
Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
We are very proud to be soon celebrating our 20th Year of Service in
2007.
As
past President of CEI, and a 1996 graduate of the Certified Professional
Manufacturers Representative training course, Wayne Hooper contributed
30+ years of sales and service experience within the communications
industry in various sales and marketing positions. This experience,
combined with past accomplishments, have contributed to a fundamental
understanding of the market place and the needs of its customers and
of the manufacturers CEI represents. The knowledge gained from those
experiences have formed the foundation for a corporate philosophy that
is a part of Capitol Electronics daily practices, believing the
customer is the essence of our existence. How the customer perceives
the roll of the manufacturers representative and that of the manufacturer
is of primary concern. The decision to display the slogan "Representing
Quality Manufacturers Since 1987" on
all company stationary and corporate advertising brochures speaks clearly
to the pride we hold for those manufacturers CEI represents.
Company
History:
From
humble beginnings, CEI has expanded both its territory and its staff
aggressively over the past nineteen years. In 1990 Nick Melander joined
the company as co-owner and Account Representative for the newly added
Ohio territory. Nick completed his Certified Professional Manufacturer's
Representative training program in January of 1998. Having started in
the commercial wireless business in the mid 70’s, Nick has both
a technical and sales background that uniquely benefits the overall
Sales Administration and Management of the company. In late 1992 Betty
Langdon was brought into the company to take over all internal office
and administrative responsibilities.
Today
as Vice President Betty exercises her strong background in business
administration and plays a vital roll as liaison between our sales staff
and the administrative departments of those manufacturers CEI represents.
Today as Company President, Nick Melander is fortunate to have a staff
of (2) two Inside Sales and Marketing Coordinators as well as (5) five
well trained and professional Field Account Managers. Collectively Capitol
highly leverages its quality human resources to represent all of their
Principals in a highly valued manner.
Strategic
and market planning along with aggressive sales success has resulted
in a high performance sales organization that continues to focus on
commercial radio communication users in the territory. Those accounts
include Self Maintained Wireless End Users, Federal, State and Local
Government, Institutional users as well as Commercial and General Line
Distributors. As the wireless industry continues it’s diversification,
Capitol Electronics has taken the challenge to “marketize”
it’s growing diverse customer base and focus individual energies
on specific vertical markets such as Commercial Carriers, OEM accounts,
Microwave/Broadband Wireless and Wireless Deployers. Specializing in
those markets will allow for quicker penetration by becoming much more
sensitive to the customers needs and desired products. CEI takes the
responsibility to identify the continued diversification of it’s
markets and it’s related needs. The commitment to additional sales
staff continues into year 2007 with the desire and soliciting of additional
Representatives.
Total
sales for the companies represented have continued to grow aggressively
each year reaching over $18,000,000.00 in 2005. With the dedication
and commitment of the current staff, 2006 shall prove to be an increasingly
productive year.
The
Market:
Capitol
Electronics has traditionally focused it's efforts on the wireless communications
segment of the telecommunications industry. These areas again include
conventional land mobile radio, self-maintained end radio users, major
end users, systems houses, and distributors of wireless communications
products. The continued growth of the commercial carrier business has
further diversified the efforts of CEI. In the Cellular/PCS markets
CEI actively calls on Carriers, Infrustructure Contractors as well as
Systems and Applications Engineers. Other markets that are rapidly growing
include OEM's (Original Equipment Manufacturers), Military Suppliers,
Microwave and Broadband Wireless Data VAR’s, Deployers and System
Integrators. Capitol Electronics is aggressively targeting these markets
as growth areas with additional focus and resources committed to the
successful marketing of their manufactures products.
In
order to effectively impact the variety of markets using products represented
by CEI, many marketing mechanics are used. A very comprehensive field
database is available to those manufacturers that have a pro-active
direct mail program. This is the same database that all CEI Account
Managers and Inside Customer support personnel are actively updating
on a daily basis while in touch with current and potential customers.
Sales
bulletins and routine newsletters are part of the continuing effort
by Capitol Electronics to "stay in front of the customer" at all times.
Custom literature packages, price matrix’s and three ring binders
are distributed when deemed effective. Telemarketing continues to prove
effective while used in conjunction with a balanced routine of personally
calling on the customer face to face.
In
addition to commonly accepted field sales calls, regional and national
trade shows, Capitol Electronics hosts information and training seminars
sponsored by specific manufacturers targeted towards select groups of
customers in their respective territories. Typically these one-day seminars
are split between two complimentary manufacturers with lunch provided
to the attendees between meetings. Additional development of Capitols
“In Service” training programs are under way to address
the demand by customers to train their internal and field sales and
customer service staff. This effort is proving to be a unique service
provided by Capitol Electronics and the principals it represents. Continued
commitment to providing these type programs and services are very much
a part of the strategic marketing plan to raise field awareness of those
products lines that CEI represents. All our Principals participate in
an annual “Capitol Wireless Expo” field trade
show where we cover (5) five in territory cities in (5) five days. Beside
sales booths and product demonstrations, there are technical seminars
and training sessions that occur simultaneous to the show hours.
The
Company Creed:
Capitol
Electronics Inc. looks forward to the opportunity to put its “Field
Resources” to work for your company. Hard work and an ethical
approach to servicing both its customers as well as it principals have
been the foundation for CEI’s daily business practices. The company
philosophy supports the balance of family and personal needs, spiritual
needs and professional career needs as a healthy formula to being happy
and staying at ones personal best performance. We believe
our customers as well as the manufacturers we represent should expect
nothing less.
